I used salted and no issues, this sS a great pie! Used a store bought crust and added cream of tartar and some corn starch to my egg whites. Yunmy

Just tried this recipe with a premise pie crust from the store, and other than that shrinking- this was amazing! I also over meandered the flour and corn starch a bit (worried about runny filling) so it was a bit thick and my fore arm feels dead! LOL!
Next time I will add a corn starch sorry to my meringue, but sooo good!!
Made at my sisters request and she is picking up her half tomorrow!

I always use unsalted butter in my recipes unless I specify otherwise.
