I am going to try this today. I think what happened is that (according to my older book 8th edition 1947) TO BEAT means "to enclose air by briskly turning ingredients over and over, continually bringing under part to top. Use either a mixing spoon or a wire whisk." They didn't expect any machine to do the work.
-Suzanne in Idaho

Lori, thanks for commenting! I'd love to see a picture of yours after you bake it because this loaf just wasn't right. It's good to know that it can come out looking like a normal loaf of bread.

I know this is an olllld post, but I don't have my FF Cookbook in front of me and I needed the Honey Bread recipe, so here I am!

I have to say, it's pretty strange that your loaf came out looking like a camel. My mom and I have made this exact recipe dozens of times, and although it does end up having a small hump inside the lip (no more than an inch), I've never seen it grow one of such large size. O.o How weird!
