Thank you, Jenna, I'm so glad you like it!
Yes, you can definitely use homemade meatballs. I would put them into the crockpot along with the sauce and cook everything on high for 3-4 hours. I bet it will taste even better with your own meatballs! Enjoy!

Ive made this with frozen meatballs and it's delicious. However I want to try it with my homemade meatballs. Can I put all the ingredients and raw meatballs together in crockpot to cook for a few hours on high?

In reply to Ruth.

Ruth, I suggest using the skillet if they aren't pre-cooked to get them browned on the outside, but it certainly isn't necessary. It worked for you without doing it, but for me, it's just a personal preference. I'm so glad you enjoyed them!

I made these the other day with fresh store-bought meatballs from Trader Joe's, and I put them right into the crockpot on low for 2 hours. Why do you suggest cooking them in a skillet before putting them into the crockpot?

In reply to Tammy.

Tammy you can freeze them for serving later. My suggestion would be to freeze the meatballs and sauce separately in plastic bags which will reduce the chance of them separating when you reheat them in the slow cooker at a later date. Hope that helps! Enjoy!

Vero, awesome to hear about the substitutions, thank you! I had to Google Mae Ploy's as I've never heard of it, but sounds like you nailed it! Thanks so much for taking the time to comment and for the awesome review.

Great use of my leftover cranberry sauce. I didn’t have the Heinz so I used ketchup with a.little bit of Mae Ploy’s and I thought that it was a pretty accurate substitution.
